WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER A SESSION?
Please read the advice given on our care page.
SHOULD I FAST BEFORE COMING TO A SESSION?
It’s best to refrain from eating for about three hours before the session so that the blood is not dealing with the digestion of food. You can still drink.
DOES IT HURT?
No. But sometimes there is minor discomfort and in the first day or so afterwards the cupped area may feel a little itchy. We recommend using olive oil or argan oil for up to seven days after the session so you keep your skin supple.
IS IT ONLY FOR MUSLIMS?
No, hijama can benefit everyone.
IS IT RESTRICTED TO THE SUNNAH DAYS?
No, on the times for cupping, Ibn Qayyim in his “Medicine of the Prophet” said, “These hadith are in accordance with the physicians’ unanimous agreement that cupping in the second half of the month or the nearby days of the third quarter is more beneficial that at the beginning or the end of the month, but when it is carried out in case of need, it is useful at any time, whether at the first, beginning or last part of the month. Al-Khallal said: Usma b.Isam told me: Hanbal told us that Abu Abd-Allah Ahmad b. Hanbal used to be cupped whenever his blood was agitated at whatever time that might be.” “The choice of these times [in the month] is restricted for when cupping is undertaken as a precaution against harm, and in order to preserve health [what in modern times might be called detoxification or prevention or prophylactic] while when needed as a medical treatment, it may be undertaken whenever the need arises. We have seen that Imam Ahmad used to be cupped at whatever time of the month it was necessary.”
